participants gave for the move away from postal reminders and towards SMS message reminders was that it was more convenient. With the majority of people keeping their mobile phones with them most of the time text messages are a good way of communicating a short reminder as the message will then be stored on the phone for future reference, and respondents considered they were generally more reliable then the post. Others reasons included being more environmentally friendly, and – with smartphones - easier to sync with outlook calendars.

although only three per cent of people currently receive reminders by text – with 83 per cent coming through post – over 67 per cent would be happy to receive text reminders or alerts in the future. Nearly 60 per cent would actually opt in for the text reminder service, and just over 80 per cent of people said they would also be interested in a customer service text call-back request capability.

New Feature: Data on Demand

Seventy percent of all beverage purchases in retail environments are impulse buys. Our new release, “Data on Demand” can help influence a shopper’s choice to purchase your wine.

Data on Demand allows you to share information with your customers with an auto-response message, perfect for instant coupons, sharing links, and information at events.

As with other programs types, you can invite participants to join other subscription lists.

Along with this feature, the reports share, how many times a mobile number participates in this campaign, the time of day people participate, and the total number of interactions with the program.

Tell us what you think. This feature will evolve into a more powerful geo-location tool. (hint;)

Because it’s text messaging, you can actually engage in some back and forth conversations rather then just pushing out alerts or appeals and having one-way conversations.

New Feature: Surveys

There’s no better way to figure out how to improve your customer service at the point-of-sales or events than to ask your customer questions. Today, we release surveys to help you improve the chances of your collecting information and activating your customers in your mobile programs. We’re pumped about this feature!

Creating Survey

After naming your campaign and creating a primary keyword, select the type of information you want to collect from the pull-down menu. The fields in the pull-down menu correspond to the fields in the profile information. You can read a previous feature post on how to create custom fields here.

When a survey participant incorrectly responds to your question, you may also customize the response.

After adding as many survey questions as you’d like (We recommend keeping the user experience in mind.), you can specify messages to say “thank you”, to notify a mobile user if she attempts to take the survey again, and to ask participant to join your promotion list.

Reports

To help you understand how captive your survey is, you can view the real time Participation Funnel on the campaign’s overview page.

Also provided is a Participation Time report which shows what time of day your customers participate in your survey and for each keyword if multiple keyword benchmarks are set up. This will help determine the best time to send broadcasts to elicit quick responses.

Create your mobile surveys and tell us how you’ve used them to activate your customers into your programs.

Text Messaging and the Haiti Earthquake

Text message has had a great impact on humanitarian and rescue efforts in Haiti. Victims trapped in the rubble have sent SMS messages to help rescuers pinpoint their location. (Read here.) Most notably, concerned people have helped raise over $2 million $5 million $10 million with $5 and $10 donations to organizations participating in the relief efforts by simply texting a keyword. Most notably the Red Cross’s call-to-action, “Text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10.”

When promoted properly, SMS programs reach an expansive audience and lead to action.

Here are a few ways to donate:

  • Text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10 to the American Red Cross
  • Text HAITI to 25383 to donate $5 to International Rescue Committee
  • Text HAITI to 45678 to donate $5 to the Salvation Army in Canada
  • Text YELE to 501501 to donation $5 to Yele
  • Text RELIEF to 30644 to get automatically connected to Catholic Relief Services and donate money with your credit card
  • Text HAITI to 864833 to donate $5 to The United Way
  • Text CERF to 90999 to donate $5 to The United Nations Foundation
  • Text DISASTER to 90999 to donate $10 to Compassion International
